Florence Markets

Weekly Markets

The Grain market (Loggia del Grano)

If you liked the straw market nearby you will also like this Loggia del Grano, which has no resemblance to it's name anymore. Originally set up in the Grain House, a 15th century building designed by the architect Parigi and commissioned by Cosimo II, this market originally offered grain stores above the vaulted roof and the market below!

Today the market offers a multitude of products from such countries as Senegal, Mali and India. But you can also find rare books and other interesting products.

The Loggia del Grano facard has a front of a cinema (long closed) and has also been a theater commissioned by Thomas Salvini.

The Loggia del Grano is situated on the Northern bank of the river Aron (Flume Arno) between the Ponte Vecchio and Ponte alle Grazie in the via Castellan behind the Galleria degli Uffizi.

It is only open Thursday to Saturday 10.00 to 18.00.

Casine Park Market (Mercato delle Casine - Parco Casine)

This is probably the biggest and cheapest of the markets in the city. This is where Florentine's go to buy bargain priced clothes and just about everything else is on offer including food.

It is only open on Tuesday mornings 07.00 to 13.00 so you will need to allow plenty of time to get there and go through the huge display. An early night before is recommended!

Casine Park is situated on the Northern bank of the river Aron (Flume Arno) North West of the main old city.

The park itself is very big and a wonderful picnic place, please don't forget to put your rubbish in the bins!

Flower Market (Loggiati di via Pellicceria).

Fancy trying the splendors of the flower market, take a romantic walk down the via Pellicceria just off the piazza della Repubblica. This old city flower market can entice your senses in other ways.

Operates every Thursday from 10.00 to 19.00 and the piazza della Repubblica is only two streets away from the Duomo in the direction of the river.

viale Guidoni market (Mercato viale Guidoni)

Another fresh fruit and vegetable market serving the North-west areas of Florence in viale Guidoni. It operates from Tuesday to Thursday from 10.00 to 11.00 and on Saturday from 09.00 to 10.00. This is a small localised market.

The market at Santo Spirito has two special monthly engagements:

Fort Basso Market (Mercato Fortezza Basso)

This is another flea market and offers old LP's, furniture, old coins and from visitors comments also "old ladies and gentleman"

Nice place to visit and you can also have a good look at the old walls of the fort and it's surrounding area.

Situated in the piazza opposite the fort on the viale Strozzi. Operates every third weekend of the month.

Finally: If you want to really compare how much of a saving you are making. Try looking in the shops on the via Tornabuoni I bet you are amazed!
